FYSOP!

FYSOP : First Year Student Outreach Program.
FYSOP : 1,000 freshman coming to Boston University a week early to participate in 1 of 10 issue areas.
FYSOP : Meeting a TON of new people before everyone else in the school
FYSOP : Love.

I arrived in Boston on Monday the 23rd eager to start my time at BU. FYSOP was there to greet me with FY-LOVE...and a long line to wait in for registration. Nevertheless, the time came for opening ceremonies. I met with my friend Katie from orientation that was in the same group as me, and we made our way to the Metcalf Hall. There were so many students and so much energy. We were introduced to our team leaders and all of the issue areas that night. It was a jungle of a time (if you know what i mean). Our team got together and played some ice-breakers to get more familiar with each other. With 5 whole days together, we needed to become comfortable around one another. All in all, it was a pretty stellar night with some good memories. :)

Throughout the week at Boston University, our team (The Lovable Lumiere's) helped the greater Boston region with community service aimed towards children. While the rain poured our first 3 days together, the time was not wasted. Indeed, we woke up around 6:00am everyday (except one day we had to wake up at the ungodly hour of 5:00) and we weren't dismissed until around 10:00 each night. FYSOP was kicking our butts. Yet, something about our group and the laughter we shared made the time a sweet time. New friendships and new playgrounds fueled us to finish the week strong.

Friday night we found ourselves at closing ceremonies with a billion hours of community service and a billion new friends. Each issue area (Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Homelessness & Housing, Human Rights, Hunger, and Urban Renewal) all gathered to honor our time spent throughout the week and congratulate ourselves on the work we all committed ourselves to. To wrap it all up, FYSOP was a blast. To my group : you guys are all rockstars. To the other 1,000+ students : you guys are all rockstars.

Spreading LOVE is what it's all about. :)
