Heading Outbound

My one and only east coast dreaded friend Libby Glenn invited me to go Apple Picking with a group at BU last weekend....I said yes. We took a bus heading outbound for about an hour and a half until we reached our destination. It was my first time seeing Massachusetts beyond Boston. The trees here are slowly starting to change color, something else that is quite new to me. Everything new, new, new. I've never been apple picking (and yet I came from Apple Valley? Hmmmm.) It was a beautiful area. I have some shots for you, mostly from a short hike that was open to take while we were there. New England know's what's going on. The transition into the fall lifestyle is slowly starting to be seen. I'm sitting in the most epic tea shop ever listening to Ingrid Michaelson's "Maybe", while the weather outside is legitimately perfect. Peace and Love from Cambridge. <3

New York City

Last weekend I took a trip down to New York for the Millennium Campus Conference (but primarily to see my very best friend RACHEL BECK!) Besides being in NYC, the trip was crazy. I got into the city so late, so I wasn't able to check into Rachel's residence hall, and therefore we had to sleep outside. HA! That was the most epic night of my life. Yet, we endured, and the next two days the conference proceeded. We were able to meet the Invisible Children roadies (including Brenda and Benna from Uganda) as well as get a crap load of information about other non-profits. It was quite overwhelming, but a good overwhelming. Being with rachel (while the rest of the gang was gettin' janky in Barstow) was so refreshing. And it all concluded with the broadway show Next to Normal. That was when I died happy. Legitimately, the show blew me away. I was so stoked! Oh, and I missed my bus back because of the show. :) But, it was all worth it.

My friend Sam had a couple tickets for the Red Sox game, and so he invited Katie, Sean, and I to join him. Besides having the most PERFECT weather ever, the whole night was a blast. We legitimately almost died by getting hit by a ball...it was awesome.

FYSOP!

FYSOP : First Year Student Outreach Program.
FYSOP : 1,000 freshman coming to Boston University a week early to participate in 1 of 10 issue areas.
FYSOP : Meeting a TON of new people before everyone else in the school
FYSOP : Love.

I arrived in Boston on Monday the 23rd eager to start my time at BU. FYSOP was there to greet me with FY-LOVE...and a long line to wait in for registration. Nevertheless, the time came for opening ceremonies. I met with my friend Katie from orientation that was in the same group as me, and we made our way to the Metcalf Hall. There were so many students and so much energy. We were introduced to our team leaders and all of the issue areas that night. It was a jungle of a time (if you know what i mean). Our team got together and played some ice-breakers to get more familiar with each other. With 5 whole days together, we needed to become comfortable around one another. All in all, it was a pretty stellar night with some good memories. :)

Throughout the week at Boston University, our team (The Lovable Lumiere's) helped the greater Boston region with community service aimed towards children. While the rain poured our first 3 days together, the time was not wasted. Indeed, we woke up around 6:00am everyday (except one day we had to wake up at the ungodly hour of 5:00) and we weren't dismissed until around 10:00 each night. FYSOP was kicking our butts. Yet, something about our group and the laughter we shared made the time a sweet time. New friendships and new playgrounds fueled us to finish the week strong.

Friday night we found ourselves at closing ceremonies with a billion hours of community service and a billion new friends. Each issue area (Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Homelessness & Housing, Human Rights, Hunger, and Urban Renewal) all gathered to honor our time spent throughout the week and congratulate ourselves on the work we all committed ourselves to. To wrap it all up, FYSOP was a blast. To my group : you guys are all rockstars. To the other 1,000+ students : you guys are all rockstars.

Spreading LOVE is what it's all about. :)

Takeoff

Example
Sitting in LAX getting ready for the flight to Boston. I looked pretty stupid with the timer going. Yikes!

Greetings from Boston, Massachusetts. I'm currently sitting in my dorm listening to music and thinking about how tired I am. This past week has been intense...but I'll get into that later. I wanted to share the "entry" I wrote as I was leaving LAX and heading to Boston. I hope you enjoy. :)

August 22nd, 2010
This morning at Savior's Place the Lord revealed His heart to His people through the prophetic. George Bowker asked people to hear from heaven on account of the global community and of what the future holds. I sat listening with eagerness to hear something good, seeing if any of it would be in accordance with my process of faith.
A couple of minutes ago I boarded a plane heading towards Atlanta, en route to Boston. In a few hours from now I will land at Logan airport, with a lot of luggage that I hope i can handle. From there, I will try to figure out where I need to go.
My thought process is maybe a little out of control, so please bear with me. This morning, the Lord spoke awesome things over me about my identity in Him and walking in my destiny. That idea comes in the picture of a bird. The bird is beautiful, and you can easily see this when he is on the ground, doing whatever a bird does. Yet, the word spoken was that it would be wrong for the bird to stay on the ground. It would be wrong for the bird to give into the fear of flying - because it is in the birds DNA to fly. It is a part of his destiny and what he was created to do; It was part of the bird's design. The beauty and destiny of the bird is in his flight.
As I sat down and got ready for takeoff, I saw those prophetic words become my reality. I am that bird, who's destiny is to fly. The airplane circles around the runway, takes a short stop, and suddenly i hear the sound of the blazing engine start to move. In that moment, I was in accordance with heaven and in my destiny.
As we start to move faster and faster, I entered heaven and saw what the Lord was doing. I saw Jesus running around me, dancing with a banner. He was singing his words over me and rejoicing in my takeoff. And my only response was to dance with Him. I was in the air on a plane, on my way to Boston.
My God is a sweet God, and He loves exposing the secret places of His heart to His children. If you take anything out this post, take this : you were made to fly. Every fiber and DNA was designed for your takeoff. You have wings, and they are your wings, so don't be afraid to tell your Dad where you want to go. Because more often than not, He wants to take you there. And as we begin in faith to walk in our identity, the Love and beauty of the father is stirred up in the air.
I am so extremely joyful for what awaits me in Boston, and grateful that the love and grace of the Father has allowed me to take Him and meet Him here.
Love and Peace from 36,000 feet somewhere over somewhere.
